Cracked, Displaced & Deformed Concrete
Slabs – Footings – Beams. Inspection & Non Destructive Solutions
Engineer Donald Thomas available in the Canberra region on site within 24 hours often less for inspection, analysis and solutions. Southern half of NSW below Sydney within a couple of days
Slabs on Ground.. Typical Causes
- Design Faults – Thickness vis a vis load – Reinforcement shortcomings – Wrong specified concrete – Lack of attention to substrate… fill depth if any, material, drainage & compaction
- Construction Deficiencies – Lack of expansion/contraction joints Non compliance with design Faulty pouring and curing techniques including extremes in weather conditions – Non-specified strength of concrete including excessive water added just before pouring
Cracks will often be surface or shallow shrinkage cracks. Apart from visual or cosmetic appearance of little concern.
However cracks full depth with width > 2 mm and/or any vertical displacement between sides of a crack can present problems. Trip hazard, water ingress affecting generating corrosion to reinforcing steel, waterproofing integrity and overall structural failure
Slab Lift
Consistently successful for raising portions of a slab separated vertically up to 50mm
Where lower slab needs elevating core hole, depth around one metre Pump in resin which expands & lifts slab Stainless bars may need to be inserted to maintain line & level of slab when stabilised
